Literacy

Reading
Thursday, February 18th, 2016

In reading, we have started a whole class novel study. Once we are done with this novel, we will move onto our small group literature circles.

We are all reading the book, Firegirl. The students will be expected to deconstruct the text by using sticky notes to record any connections, inferences, questions, or thoughts they have while reading. They will need to hand in their sticky notes after they have finished the book. They will also be expected to fill out and answer some comprehension questions for each chapter they are assigned to read. We will meet as a whole group after each assigned reading. The students will also be expected to complete a culminating task at the end of the novel to demonstrate their understanding of the book. More information on the tasks they can choose from will be provided soon.

Writing

Word Study

We have started a new word challenge in our class - BOGGLE! There are letters up on our Literacy Lounge board, arranged in a 4 by 4 grid. The students will have two weeks to come up with as many words as they can, while connecting the letters. Let the challenge begin!
